Regarding the update problem of some

LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE APP STORE AND THE LATEST UPDATE. NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT RIGHT NOW. IT IS ON THE APP STORE SITE. SORRY FOR THAT! HERE IS A WORKAROUND: 1. Manually stop the update in the Mac App Store App (under Purchases tab) 2. Quit App Store App 3. Manually delete old version (MOAppsWrite) from your Application folder 4. (IMPORTANT) Empty your Trash 5. Open Mac App Store App again 6. Manually reinstall Write from your Purchases Tab 7. Everything should be fine > You can contact me at any time by using the Support Link on this page in the upper right corner :-) I will try to find a solution with Apple ASAP - but this may take a while :-(

awesome!

This is what I want!! Finally, I can use the word and pdf easily.

Just What I Needed!

I enjoyed the 1,2,3 instruction when I opened it (Especially the whitty comment about his cats ;) I was looking for an alternative to downloading the entire Microsoft Office package for an insane amount of money…. when all I needed was something a short step up form TextEdit. This app is perfect, and can be used in conjunction with Author, which is what I needed it for:) Thanks Michael!

Excellent, well balanced app

This is a great app with an excellent balance of features and performance. I fits into a great spot between Textedit and Word/Pages: A lot more document controls and features than Textedit, but without the sluggishness and feature-bloat of Word (and, to some extent, Pages). Uses all the latest Lion features (and UI elements), works natively with standard file types (RTF, Word, Text, etc. - i.e. no import/export needed like Pages), and backed by a super-responsive and active developer too. I dont think you can really go wrong wiht this app!

Great Application for Word Processing

This application is NOT for you if you like the themes and templates in Pages, or some of the advanced features. However, if you want an application for word-processing, this cant be beat. Its pretty cheap, works well, looks clean, and is very easy-to-use. Overall, its well worth the money.

Nice & Simple

I will say it looks & feels a lot better than Text Edit but I am not sure what additonal features Write has. Would be nice to have simple templates. Also, being able to write text over images. I might be willing to spend $1 for a template on this app. Oh, and maybe an iPhone app would be convenient. This is a good app and cheap, so I wasnt expecting anything fancy. I just wish I knew what I could do on Write that I cant do on Text Edit. If you already familar with Text Edit and dont like it, this for sure is your best bet.

Just what I needed!

Couldnt ask for anything better! Just what I needed, the best alternative for word. I just needed the basic word and no way was I going to pay for the entire suite so this app is the perfect solution. Great price! Happy to help support the cats!!! Thanks Michael!

Simple, but Crashes! PLEASE FIX THIS

I was happy to have this as an alternative to Pages, without having to fork out $$$ for Office. I like that there is a save to PDF button right up front. However it has crashed on me at least three times in the 2 months Ive been using it. I use the new Mac Book Air if that makes any difference. Would like to keep using this app, I hope Michael fixes the problem.

Good so far

I had needed a word processing program for awhile now. I found this little gem and for $5.99 you cant beat the price. The app downloaded super fast and I am so happy I bought it. I was able to write my document and sent it away.

Would not download

Cannot download:"NSConsistencyException".

I hate the new icon

But other than that this is a really good app. I mean it is full bodied and does all I need in a word pricessor and with style. I like to look at word processing apps for the fun of it and have downloaded and even purchased several (O.K....many) ove rthe years, and this one is right up there next to WORD and Pages. It will do the usual stuff, plus some glitz, so pretty much do it all. Iahve been using it to write letters, send business correspondence and so on, and at times using a graphic or two, and inserting clip art, so it does that well too. For anything really big guns you cannot beat Microsoft WORD and the OFFICE suite in general, but rather than get Pages, just get Write, and you will have a terrific app for everyday at a great price! BUT, why did the sleek icon I love have to be replaced with this stubbly little really not so pretty icon?! It looks more like a microphone with a pen point on it than a ncie pen....please please revert to the old icon if at all possible.

Really, really nice

Small, fast and feature-rich text editor for reasonable price: thats what you get, buying Write. Higly recomend. Its nice that author updates program frequently, so its really nice to see how its becoming better and better.

Excellent Application

Excellent. I prefer it more than word or pages. Beautiful and professional layout. A very nice picture of the writing, and you can even make your own makeshift graph. Ive had pages and microscoft before, but this is much better. And the price? Incredible. What an excellent application.

Great so far

Purchased this app after looking for a simple word processor. For the moment I just need it to record notes - the way my thoughts flow, not the way a word processor thinks I need to format. This has been perfect! No crazy auto-formatting, no high price tag. The shortcut keys are simple and intuitive, view of the document is just right and the price is more than reasonable. I have not had to contact anyone for support yet, but I feel good about the built-in feedback feature and seeming openness to accepting questions/ suggestions/ criticism if I one day need to. I cant wait to try this product out when I need to acutally write a paper... Review will be updated then.

The ruler bug is NOT fixed...

Write should be about all the word processor I routinely need, but the ruler bears almost no relation to the actual page. Set the page margins for one inch at each side, and Write begins the line at 1.22". Sounds trivial, I know, but I regularly write and use documents with tab-defined fields and columns, and Write jacks them up… Too bad, because otherwise Write might be just what I was looking for.

awesome app

This app was perfect for me. Microsoft word is amazing, but after using this product I probably wont be needing it in the future. It does everything I needed to do in Word with a much simpler layout. I do all my college classes online so Im always looking for an easy way to get my assignments done. This app is easy to use, simple, and works great. Worth the purchase!

Still trying to figure out how to make columns!

This is great for the simple projects I need it for and cant beat the price tag, I just cant seem to figure out how to make columns and I cant find anywhere to ask how! Very frustrating, but overall a great app.

What

Whats not to like about a basic and inexpensive word processor that opens faster than Libre Office and occupies 1% of the disk space, works with Libre Office as well as the clunky Microsoft formats, and offers easy PDF export? Well, it wont open password-protected Libre Office files. Big deal. (I avoid Microsoft, so cant comment on Word.) And theres no save as. You set a default format for new documents, and you have a chance to choose the format the first time you save, but after that you have to export it to rtf, doc, txt, or pdf. But you cannot export to Libre Office format. So save as would be a nice improvement, and it would be nice if the app didnt prompt to save empty documents. As with Textedit, the save menu seems unusually slow to appear. However, the major thorn in Write for me is that it will not recognize nor save page breaks compatible with Libre Offices odt format. The workaround there is to work in doc or docx, where the page breaks do translate, though that tends to make files considerably larger (as if anybody but me cares anymore). Overall, a great app. A tweak or two and it will be close to perfect. UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2012: Chris Mason has released Growly Write (not available through Apple). Its free and completely blows this Write out of the water (I dont even have this app installed anymore). However, Growly Write does not work with LibreOffice files, which turned me off until its developer pointed out that RTF files are human readable. Thinking in terms of archiving my few documents, RTF now makes sense to me. I could make get data out rtf files on an 8086 DOS machine if I had to, even if they became corrupted along the way. Look inside a Libre Office document and you just have a bunch of gobbledegook until the application translates it.

Hardly worth trying out..

Im a college student and work part time so I used notes/word/text edit on my Mac a lot but felt unorganized and was looking for a simple word processor that could consolidate my notes. This application is really shallow. It constantly autocorrects words when Im typing my notes or papers and will not show the red line underneath the word it automatically corrected. This feature is very primal. For example, I was typing a paper for a class and typed "buyign" but meant to type "buying" (of course) and this autocorrected it into "buy gin". Im so glad I looked over my paper and found it. Doesnt even make any sense! Simple text errors are autocorrected horribly. And some words such as "chnge" -- it has no dea what you are trying to say (not even a suggestion list!) It has done this to me everyday, multiple times a day. If you are an excellent "typer" then dont worry - this app might be for you. But dont expect it to correct your typos hardly at all. I gave it 1 star because it kind of gets the job done.. eventually.. with lots of frustration. It is simple in design, but things are compromised because of it. The margin/line spacing/standard text are always off (.7 all edges?? Helvetica??)) so I always have to standardize every new page I open. Overall, this app has caused me more of a headache than helped me. Defintely go with microsoft word, or any other mainstream text processors. This one is too trivial.
